Thickness gauge for hot-dip coating IT-GP

Plant of Microelectronic Technologies has been actively supporting Russian instrumentation engineering and science having focused its efforts on developing and manufacturing modern measuring and testing equipment for glass industry. At the moment, the new device – thickness gauge for hot-dip coating IT-GP – is at its final development stage. This device is designed to control the thickness of protective tin oxide SnO2 coating applied onto glass packaging. In compliance with the requirements of GOST 32131-2021 (Russian State Standard), a coating thickness control is crucial for providing the quality and durability of glass packaging. As recommended, the thickness of protective and strengthening coating on a bottle mouth shouldn’t be more than 1 nm, on the bottle body – from 2 up to 6 nm. This is necessary for the protective and strengthening coating to conform to the regulatory requirements. If the coating thickness is under the minimum value, the glass packaging will not be durable enough, and if the coating is over the maximum value, it can cause the packaging deformation and emergence of roughness and irregularities on its surface that is also inadmissible.

IT-GP characteristics:

1. The range of measuring protective and strengthening coating thickness: from 0 CTU up to 250 CTU (from 0 nm up to 25 nm);
2. Measuring accuracy: ± 3 CTU (0.3 nm);
3. Glass thickness: up to 20 mm;
4. Protective and strengthening coating composition: tin oxide SnO2 on a glass surface;
5. Battery type: 18650 by 3200 mА/h;
6. Availability of USB type C for charging.

IT-GP advantages:

Thickness gauge for hot-dip coating IT-GP is a necessary tool for glass packaging manufacturers that allows controlling the quality of protective coatings and providing the compliance of products with the strictest consumers’ requirements. At the moment, IT-GP prototype model is being fine-tuned to be delivered for trial operation to one of the largest Russian glass factories.
